Out, Out, Brief Candle (G)
Title: Out, Out, Brief Candle
Rating: G
Pairing: None
Spoilers: Hide and Seek
Disclaimer: None of these characters belong to me...sadly
Feedback: yes, please.
Summary: Jinto had never been afraid of the dark.
Author Notes: written for the
gatecreation episodes challenge. The title comes from the Scottish play by Shakespeare.
“Do not be afraid of the dark.”
It was one of the first things his father had taught him.
“There is much in this world to be afraid of; you must not fear the dark. It is a time to sleep, to rest and to reflect. It is not something to be feared.”
And Jinto had always believed him.
Until the darkness came.
Until he released the darkness.
Darkness had always been an abstract concept, though Jinto would never have described it as such.
Now it was real. It was a monster like the Wraith.
The young marine had told him that “stuff happens,” and though Jinto had smiled and nodded that he understood, he did not really believe that it was not his fault.
He believed he knew how Major Sheppard must feel. He too had awoken the monsters.
Teyla had told him that the darkness was afraid of fire, and he believed the candle would protect him, but sooner or later, the candle would go out.
***
When Jinto heard that Dr. McKay had defeated the darkness, he believed for the first time in his life, that there was hope for a life lived without fear of the Wraith.
If the monster he had awoken could be defeated by the people of Earth, perhaps one day they would find a way to defeat the monsters Major Sheppard had awoken as well.
