Eddie Markham hadn’t been with the SGC when Teal’c was stuck in the stargate, but Brent Stackhouse had. The Jaffa had come through the gate after two days stuck in its memory buffer and had only said that he’d had his revenge. Two days of being demolecularized and no apparent side effects. He didn’t even realize that he’d missed two whole days of his life.

Stackhouse had only lost approximately 38 minutes of his, and he was completely freaking out about it. The only bright spot to the issue seemed to be that he wasn’t alone in all this. Markham had lost time too. The gateroom had erupted in cheers when they’d emerged, and Stackhouse and Markham had no idea why. They’d also had no idea why Teyla was suddenly standing behind them, staggering under the weight of an unconscious Major Sheppard, or why Dr. McKay was stumbling into Stackhouse’s chair.

“I keep thinking I’m forgetting something.”

Stackhouse looked over at Markham, who was lying on his back on Stackhouse’s bed, arms crossed underneath his head. “I’m always feeling like I’m late for a briefing or something.”

“Ever wonder if it’s all in our heads? Like if they hadn’t told us how long we’d been in the gate, we’d just think it was all normal?”

Brent snorted, “I try not to think about it too much.”

“Yeah, because that’s worked so well for us so far.”

They sat in silence for several minutes. These meetings had become a habit over the last few weeks, and Stackhouse had begun to think of Eddie as his first real friend in the Pegasus Galaxy. Most of the time they didn’t say anything, and when they did, they’d usually talk about something completely unrelated to the mission, finding comfort in each other’s presence and the common experience they shared.

Markham awkwardly cleared his throat, catching Stackhouse’s attention before saying, “I...uh...never said thanks.”

“For what?”

“For sticking up for me in the jumper when Ford was yelling at me.”

“Hey, I was just glad I don’t have the gene so they couldn’t try to make me fly the critically injured military head of Atlantis through the gate.”

Markham smiled at the poor attempt at humor, and Stackhouse grinned back, and if they both knew that they weren’t really talking about that day, neither of them said anything.
