Song Lyric Challenge

Okay, I think I've got this figured out.

So, this here's the sign-up post for the Song Lyric Challenge. You'll be assigned one line from a song, and you'll need to write a fic based on that line. The line does not need to appear in your fic, but there should be a very definite connection to the line. The minimum length for fics is 500 words and there is no upper limit. If you want to write an epic for this challenge, please do.

It looks like November 11th is the date that will work best for most people so that will be the deadline. Sign-ups will close September 30th, and you'll receive your assignments no later than October 4th. If you asked for an earlier deadline, you are more than welcome to post your fic before the deadline. I'll post the masterlist of fics here when they're all finished.

To sign up, please comment to this post with your lj-name (or a way to contact you if you're not on LJ) and between 1-3 lines from various songs that you might like to see spun into fics. (Just one line from each song, and please include the artist and song title.) They can be silly or serious or sad or happy. Anything goes.

When you receive your assignment, you'll be given two song lyrics to choose from, so if one doesn't jumpstart your muse, hopefully the other will.

Also, please let me know if you can pinch-hit.

If you have to drop out after receiving your assignment, please let me know as soon as possible so I can assign your prompt to someone else.

This is a multi-fandom challenge, so feel free to write any fandom and any pairing you choose. And please pimp this out to all your friends. I'm only active in the Stargate: Atlantis and Torchwood fandoms, so that's where I'm pimping this, but I'd really like to see it expand beyond that.

A week before the deadline (so November 3rd), I'll put up a post for you to give me the links to your fics.

Edit2: Okay, I'm slightly concerned that I wasn't terribly clear on this, so I'm going to reiterate. You give me three lyrics, and I'll give you someone else's lyrics to write to. No one will be assigned their own lyrics as a prompt. Sorry for any confusion on that score. Carry on.

Edit3: Because someone asked...You don't need to include your fandom when you sign up. The lyrics will be distributed randomly. Some of them may end up not being given out at all. I'm mostly asking you to give me some because I don't think I'd be able to come up with enough on my own. (And they'd probably all come from the same ten bands.) If someone from a fandom you don't normally read ends up with your lyrics, think of it as a chance to have a little trial run in that fandom. Who knows, maybe you'll find a brand new place to share your crazy fandom love?
