Evan had returned to Atlantis via puddlejumper using the McKay-Carter Intergalactic Bridge almost immediately upon hearing from Sheppard’s team. The ‘jumpers were used only for military, to help secure the city. Civilians would be ferried over on the Daedelus.

Nearly a month had passed since they’d seen each other by the time Radek was beamed down. It was all Evan could do not to pounce on him the minute he appeared, but since all personnel were beamed directly to the gateroom under Caldwell’s direct supervision, he managed to contain himself until they got to their quarters.

He almost didn’t make it.

I really hope this is a big enough space to have avoided spoilers :).

“He almost didn’t make it.”

Radek held onto that adverb with the tenacity of an iratus bug. Almost. He almost didn’t make it, which meant that he really did make it. The man on the hospital bed in front of him was very much alive. The steady beeping of the heart monitor told him that much.

He reached out a shaky hand to brush his fingers across Evan’s pale forehead. The warmth that greeted him just another sign that his husband was still living, blood still pumping through those veins.

Evan’s eyes opened wearily.

Radek smiled, “Sleep well?”

Radek smiled, “Sleep well?”

Evan grinned at him and stretched, a full body stretch feeling the tension leak from his sore limbs as he let loose an enormous yawn. “Better than I have all week.”

“I should hope so. If I do not take better care of you than the Genii than I am a poor excuse for a husband.”

Evan eyed him with mock appraisal. “You are definitely not a poor excuse for a husband. In fact, you’re the best husband I’ve ever had.”

“If I am not mistaken, Major. I am the only husband you have ever had.”

**

“I am the only husband you have ever had?”

“No, Radek, I make it a point to get married on every planet I go to.”

“That is not what I asked.”

Evan grimaced. He had hoped the story of the ill-fated mission to P9X-293 would not have reached Radek’s ears, but he’d hardly been back from his unintentionally extended mission for three hours before Radek cornered him outside the infirmary.

“Yes, you are the only husband I’ve ever had.”

“Then I suppose I can forgive you for picking up a wife, if you promise never to bring her home.”
