It is days like today when I especially need really remarkable fic, and Batter My Heart by [livejournal.com profile] pandarus is beyond remarkable. It's heartbreaking and perfect and gorgeously written, and it shows us a side of heaven and of Cas that I think we only get glimpses of in the show. (It also shows a side of Dean that I really, really want to be able to play in TIC, but I'm just not that good at it.)

I'll confess that I only clicked the link because the title is from a Donne poem, but I'm so very glad I did.

Rec time!

Okay, so I'm not a Lorne/Sheppard shipper. I just don't see it. But I love to see Lorne/Sheppard friendship pieces, and I've been dying to see the conversation they have after Tabula Rasa since Teyla mentioned it in the ep.

So here is Closure by [livejournal.com profile] sheryden. John is laid back and conducting "meetings" on the driving range, and Lorne is uptight and worried that he's losing control.

It's like she read my mind.

I am a shamelessly rabid Gaiman fangirl.

Let's just get that right out there.

I know it doesn't show over here because, well, I don't write any Gaiman fic. Which is mostly because I feel unworthy, but also because he's done such amazing things with his worlds that I pretty much never think to myself, "Huh, this could be more interesting if we saw (fill-in-plot-device/character-development)."

But every once in a while, someone in a fandom I do participate in writes a brilliant crossover with Sandman (and if you haven't read any Sandman, you must go out to your local book/comic store right now and procure a copy of at least one volume as they're beyond brilliant), and I feel I need to share the joy.

I know I've rec'd the SGA one with McKay and Sheppard and Delerium and Desire, but looking back, it seems I never rec'd [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane's Jack/Death story, which is really...well, who else would be Jack's first? (Torchwood Jack not SG-1 Jack.)

But today I found another. [livejournal.com profile] smithy161's D is for.... It's Jack and Death, but not Jack/Death. And it's kind of perfect. So go read it, because...yeah.

No Lorne in this one, and it contains spoilers for Quarantine, so I'm putting the rec and my reason's for it behind this cut )

Rec time

Lorne/Ianto is love, but Lorne/Novak is extremely geeky love.

Seasonal Affective by [livejournal.com profile] miriel

Cute, fluffy, Christmasy piece. There's hiccuping and Lorne being all romantical. Sometimes, I need to remind myself that there's life outside of Lorne/Ianto.

It's been a while since I did a rec, eh? And nearly a month since I posted anything at all here.

So here goes, this is just a very short (read: slightly longer than a drabble) untitled Firefly/Atlantis piece from [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic. But it's quite amusing. It's not porny at all, so if you're looking for that, well, sorry to disappoint. The world is not made entirely of porn, you know. But I think you should all read it, and I can tell you why in two words and a piece of punctuation.

Lorne/Mal

In case anyone was curious, I found the piece I was looking for in my Lorne porn post. It's I might like you better if we slept together... by [livejournal.com profile] vagablonde.

I knew I'd remember if I just thought about it for a minute or two.

[livejournal.com profile] maverick0324 said she needed Lorne porn, so I thought I'd accomodate her by compiling a list of sorts.

Mmm...Lorne...I mean, porn )

Anyhow, now it's time for a little audience participation. What are your favorite porny Lorne stories? I don't mean, lots of kissing and then they disappear to a room and it cuts tot he next morning (though, god knows, I've written my fai share of those, and there is a time and place for them). I'm talking really hot and porny and he-put-that-where-exactly? sort of stories. All featuring our favorite major, of course. Drop your links here.

Because you can never have too much Lorne porn.

Two things.

Firstly, [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic has written a delightful little piece called Tending the Wounded. It's Lorne/Novak, which I have a soft spot for. Okay, okay, I adore it, even though I've never written any. It's part of her Relationship from Scratch series. Sometimes you just need a little cute, geeky fic, y'know?

And secondly a very small bit of wank )
skidmo_fic: (possible rodney)
[livejournal.com profile] cat_latin has posted a Sandman/SGA crossover, Tripping Mirrors, which just hits all the right buttons for me. Delerium and Despair are perfect, and wow. It just works. I'm not generally an advocate of McShep, but it sort of settles into this fic and makes itself at home.

[livejournal.com profile] bluejbird did wonderful things with my prompts for the [livejournal.com profile] lorne_teyla mini-fest, and it has resulted in Those Who Are Left Behind.

Lovely little story, really.

Two reasons for this post.

One: I said in my userinfo that I might post recs here, and I have yet to do that. My very first rec has got to be for [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon's fantastic A Farm in Iowa series. It's brilliant. I lived for several years in a small town in eastern Montana, very near to my grandparents' farm. This series makes me want to go back so very badly.

Two: Yesterday, two friends and I took a little road trip up to Vancouver. We don't have the money to actually go to the Creation convention, but we did score tickets to the A Dog's Breakfast screening. It was awesome. And David and Jane and John Lenic were marvelous during the Q&A. They had to rush off right afterwards as David said he was scheduled to do a 10 hour day today with just McKay in a puddlejumper, so there was no chance to actually speak to him, but I am more than satisfied to be able to say that I have been in the same room as David Hewlett. *tries to hide the grin that would cause co-workers to fear for her sanity*

Meme'd

I wasn't going to post this, because I thought, "Very few people have actually friended me, so very few people probably read my actual journal as opposed to things I link to in various comms." But checking again, I see that I have a lovely little cache of friends, which makes me rather warm and giggly inside. So thanks for friending me, people. Here's a meme. :)

Post a list of your top five fics favorite you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

You Can Never Go Back - Bates/OFC, implied Bates/Teyla UST, Bates post-Atlantis fic - I'm not sure if I like this one so much because it's post-Atlantis Bates or because it's the last one I wrote (I always think fondly of recent fic). Either way, I really like it.

They Rest From Their Labors - Zelenka/OFC, the real reason Zelenka doesn't like kids. - I always gravitate towards the darker/sadder fics, and writing this one made me cry.

Speak to Us of Friendship - McKay/Gaul, what if they knew each other before Atlantis? - I like this one mostly because it was an idea I had even before I started writing fics. It just really stuck with me.

A Hard Day’s Night - McKay/Ronon, tension release grows into something deeper. - I'm fond of this one because I was disappointed to discover that there wasn't a huge influx of McKay/Ronon fic after Allies. This is my meager attempt to correct that. Also, almost everyone who commented on this said that they were having a bad day until they read it.

Dear Mom - Lorne/Zelenka, part of the Loves Lost and Found series. - Epistolary fic! That's why I like it. It turned out much better than I'd imagined it would.

I know it's only supposed to be five, but I just couldn't help myself. Consider this one an honorable mention if you will.

A Hundred Lesser Faces - Ford/Beckett UST, Hoff fic - I like this one because it was the moment when I actually kind of started to like Ford. I'd already written a couple of Ford pieces when I did this one, but this one helped me come to terms with my complete lack of hatred for Ford.
