Title: More Than a Desk Job
Rating: G
Pairing: None
Spoilers: Runner
Disclaimer: None of these characters belong to me...sadly
Feedback: yes, please.
Summary: Lorne muses on his recent career move.
Author’s Notes: written for the gatecreation episodes challenge.
When Evan Lorne received orders for the Pegasus Galaxy he was understandably apprehensive. The unfortunate experience on P3X-403, in which he embarrassed himself in front of Teal’c and his team by vomiting at his first glimpse of what an off-world death could look like, came to mind, and he wondered how bad a death in another galaxy would be.
On the other hand, he’d joined the Stargate program because he’d wanted more than a desk job, which was all he was likely to get as an Air Force geologist. Second in Command to the military commander of Atlantis was definitely more than a desk job.
It was the only time in his life he’d been given orders with the option to refuse. No one was sent to Atlantis against their wishes. And when he’d weighed his apprehensions against the part of him that was tremendously excited by the idea of exploring a whole new galaxy, he found that he couldn’t say no.
***
Within a week of his arrival in Atlantis, he’d been assigned to babysit her most obnoxious scientist, been hit with a Wraith stunner by a former Marine lieutenant (twice), and watched a man discover that his entire world had been destroyed.
It was stressful. It was devastating. It was terrifying.
And he wouldn’t trade it for anything.
